Marilyn Owens, Ph.D., MBA, director with NMG since 2005, is a senior healthcare executive with extensive experience in infectious disease, molecular genetics, and anatomic pathology reference laboratory operations. Throughout her career, she has established 15 laboratories over a broad range of scientific specialties and has integrated 6 laboratory acquisitions. She is well known for scientific prowess, technology-transfer, and strategic planning.
Dr.Owens has held several senior Development and Operations positions at major laboratories: Senior Scientific Director at Nichols Institute (now QuestDiagnostics), SVP of Operations at IMPATH, (now LabCorp), SVP of Operations atCaris Life Sciences, and Chief Operating Office of the Knight DiagnosticLaboratories at Oregon Health & Science University. She has providedtechnical and strategic consulting services to major health systems in the U.S.and internationally, IVD companies, startup and turnaround laboratory management for genetics, oncology, and, most recently, SARS-Cov-2 PCR and serology test validations and high-volume operations.
Dr.Owens earned B.S. and M.S. degrees in Microbiology from California StateUniversity, Long Beach, a Ph.D. in Medical Microbiology and Immunology fromU.C.L.A., and an M.B.A. in strategy and management from Pepperdine University.
